Control of microparticles using centrifugal force in a self-driven oil purifier

Reporter: Choi Y.

Filtration efficiency is very low for small particles as they do not reach to the outer wall in the centrifugal oil purifier. The reason for this is that the momentum to reach the outer wall decreases as the size of the particle decreases. Thus particles do not overcome the big pressure difference between the outer wall and the axis and do not reach the outer wall. If the centrifugal force -  which induces the pressure difference between the outer wall and the axis in rotating system - is controlled by changing the mechanism of rotating system itself, the pressure gap between the outer wall and the axis be decreased, and good efficiency for even tiny particles can be obtained.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the flow characteristics and to enhance the filtration efficiency of tiny impurities in a cylindrical centrifugal oil purifier with simple inlet and outlet.
