Cultural program

BGRS\SB-2012 conference will have associated social events, excursion tours to Novosibirsk and post-conference trips. The cultural program includes the following:

I. AKADEMGORODOK EXCURSION AND LOCAL MUSEUMS VISITING

Information:
Bus sightseeing excursion in the Akademgorodok scientific center, visiting Geological museum, Sun museum and Ob lake & storage dam.

GEOLOGICAL MUSEUM was founded in 1958. The museum exhibition represents mineralogical samples from more than 50 countries and all the regions of Russia. The museum collection contains 1000 mineralogical samples (the total number of exhibits is about 20 thousand). The exhibition has 56 meteorite samples of total mass about 150 kg. The large exposition also presents more than 60 artificially synthesized minerals. 
The museum represents about 10 thousand samples of minerals and fossils from Siberia and Far East in the exposition hall and more than 25 thousand samples in the museum funds.

The idea of SUN MUSEUM was born in 1986.
Nowadays the museum collection contains about 1500 exhibits dedicated to Sun. More than 500 of them are woodcutting works of the museum founder V.I. Lipenkov.
The museum exhibits the folk’s tradition of Sun and Solar system depiction, images of Sun gods and Solar symbols in petroglyphic drawings of aincient peoples, artificers’ works related to Sun.

The NOVOSIBIRSK HYDRO POWER STATION construction on the Ob Lake/River began in 1950, finished in 1961. The energy production for the 40 years of Hydro Power Station work amounts to 74 billions kilo watts per hour. It is equivalent to 24 millions tons of coal. The width of the dam is 223,6 m, height is 33 м.


II. NOVOSIBIRSK EXCURSION
Information:

The bus excursion will show Novosibirsk historical places and several fountains: The Ob Buoyant fountain, The River Civilizations fountain, Musical fountain, etc.


III. Excursion to the Novosibirsk Zoo

Novosibirsk Zoo: Description

Presently, the Novosibirsk Zoo has about 10,000 animal individuals belonging to 702 species. Over 300 species are enrolled into the International Red Book of Endangered Species, the Russian Red Book, and the Red Book of the Novosibirsk Oblast. International genealogical books are kept for 56 species. The staff of the Zoo takes part in 53 international programs on the preservation of rare and endangered animal species. The Zoo has one of the world-beating collections of felids and mustelids. The Zoo is a member of three international associations: the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), European–Asian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EARAZA), and the World Association of Zoos and Aquaria (WAZA). The Zoo is also a member of the ISIS information system.
The mascot of the Novosibirsk Zoo is the snow leopard, a beautiful and graceful animal. Its range in Siberia is confined to Altai.
The staff of the Zoo is an enthusiastic team, which conducts enormous scientific work on the preservation of endangered animal species on the Earth. They have published over 50 research papers on keeping and reproducing rare and endangered animals and on their postnatal development.
The Zoo was first to obtain progeny from some rare species: river otter, Siberia grouse, Kamchatka mountain sheep, Putorana snow sheep, etc.
The Novosibirsk Zoo contacts with over 150 zoos of 44 countries. Since 1989, it has traded over 100 animals with foreign partners of 25 countries.
In 2008, the Novosibirsk Zoo qualified for the final of the competition "Seven Miracles of Russia".

IV. Post-Tour “Gorny Altai: Sites of Strength”

Tour description
This tour is arranged for inquisitive voyagers, who want to appreciate each instant of their lives.
The program of the tour will provide you with a complete notion of Gorny Altai. You will visit the most interesting geographic, natural, historical, and cultural sites of this inimitable, charming and mysterious land.  
The fastness of the trip and change of travel modes and means of transport will help you enter into the beauty of the Altai nature and have a rest after the hard-driving program of the Conference.
Seeing Chemal, a marvelous and energy-emanating site chosen for the recreation, you will have an unforgettable weekend and get an energy boost for months.  

Overall duration: 3 days and 2 nights.
Type of track: Composite
Group size: 8-10 persons.

Shifts:

  • 1st shift: June 30—July 2, 2012.
  • 2nd shift: July 3—July 5, 2012. 

Tour cost for one person: 7,600 rubles

The cost includes:

  • Transfer across the trip,
