Modern operational model of the atmosphere is actually already a model of the environment, as itl includes the description of the processes in the active layer of land and lakes (not only in the atmosphere), the chemical unit and the forecast model of waves in the ocean.

The report is expected to give an overview of modern weather forecasting systems (model of the environment plus the technological line), and to show what research Gury I. Marchuk (even the work performed during the post-graduate studies!) have and continue to have an important influence on the development of these systems. For example, the work carried out jointly with N.I.Buleev, the splitting up method  and semi-implicit  Marchuk-Robert  method for solving the forecast problems, contribution to the development of data assimilation systems (V.V.Penenko gives more seem) , the creation of the Siberian school for the study of processes in the atmosphere and ocean.

For me it was fortunate enough to work in the Computer Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR under the direct supervision of Gury Ivanovich in 1962-1980. So the content of the report will be based partly on personal memories about the work of Guria Ivanovic in this period.

The study was performed by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation (project №14-37-00053) at the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia.
