The dehydrogenation processes are widely used in practice. The processes of hydrocarbon catalytic dehydrogenation are known to be characterized by strong equilibrium limitations. The oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) characterized by low products selectivity. Using a membrane reactor permits one to increase the conversion value by the selective hydrogen removal from the reaction zone and to shift the equilibrium towards the products.
Our research represents mathematical modeling of hydrocarbons dehydrogenation processes in catalytic membrane reactor with dense or porous membranes. The verification of mathematical model of membrane reactor was done for ethane dehydrogenation. The balance equations represent a system of differential equations in partial derivatives, which were treated numerically by the method of lines and integro-interpolation method. The system is transformed into the non-linear system of ordinary differential equations and was treated numerically by the appropriate method for ODE solving. A second-order Rosenbroke algorithm with an automatic choice of the integration interval was used to solve the set of equations in this case. Mathematical modeling has allowed us to optimize the parameter values, which have an effect on the hydrocarbons conversion and products selectivity.
