Economy of the steppe population in the late bronze age on the territory of the Orenburg region

ABSTRACT: During the Late Bronze Age livestock farming was the main part of economy for the Eurasian steppe population. Evidently, the livestock farming was mobile, based on population movement. One of the indirect signs of popu¬lation’s mobility may be the existence of the light land constructions. This fact bears witness to mobility of the ancient nomads who can build or repair such buildings quickly in the realities of nomadic life. At the time, the metallurgy progress breaks new ground. The existence of fixed settlements argues for the higher metalworking level. The metalworking marks were found on the all examined settlements. The metal smelting and finished goods production marks are metal things presence, slag findings, the remains of furnaces and special buildings for this manufacture. With the metalworking growth others productions moved to a new level. Using bronze tools bone-carvers begin making more qualitative things. Our best guess is that the similar processes were in the clothes making, houses building, wood processing, hunting and certainly in the military arts. The population, adapted to the climate and ecology of the steppe region, could raise their economy. The next archeological findings should widen our knowledge about the economy of the Late Bronze Age period.
